GTL Implements Staff Education and Training Platform in Partnership with Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC)

System geared toward saving taxpayer dollars and increasing education for state’s correctional officers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reston, Virginia (PRNewsWire) – June 22, 2017GTL, an innovation leader in correctional technology, education solutions that assist in rehabilitating inmates, and payment services solutions for government, today announced it is the first corrections company to implement a staff education and training platform. In a partnership with the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC), this platform supports an education initiative to increase staff training through an innovative use of technology.

“The Tennessee Department of Correction embraces training and continuous education for all of our staff,” said Commissioner Tony C. Parker. “This partnership with GTL gives the Department a practical, low-cost way to increase the amount of training our team receives using an interactive, efficient tool. This is something that no other department of correction is doing, and we are proud to be the first to utilize technology in this way.”

“Our education and training content combined with our learning management system enhances education while lowering training costs by providing digitized courses and a scoring and evaluation module often utilized by colleges,” said Dr. Turner Nashe, GTL Senior Vice President of Education Services.

“After a lot of hard up-front work digitizing courses and building test material, I believe we are leading the way with innovative thinking on education through this unique partnership. Many of the corrections officers coming into the system are young adults who are used to consuming content digitally. Now through responsive design of our platform, we have provided them a system of learning that is delivered over tablets and smartphones. Commissioner Parker should be lauded for being a pioneer by embracing technology to increase education and training for state officers,” continued Dr. Nashe.

GTL’s entire solution suite will be showcased from June 25–27 in booth 351 at the National Sheriffs’ Association’s Annual Conference and Exhibition in Reno, Nevada. GTL will also have its Technology in Motion tour vehicle on display inside the exposition hall at the NSA conference. The Technology in Motion vehicle includes the latest hardware, software, and connectivity to enable comprehensive hands-on demonstrations of the full range of offerings for the corrections, education, and government sectors.
