GTL Inspire® Inmate Tablet Now Offering eBooks Subscription

Inmates can now purchase a subscription with access to over 40,000 downloadable eBooks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reston, Virginia (PRNewsWire) – April 17, 2017GTL , an innovation leader in correctional technology and payment services solutions for government, today announced it is now offering eBooks subscription options through the Inspire® inmate tablet. The Inspire eBooks application allows inmates to browse a vast library of reading material from categories, including fiction, non-fiction, classics, educational, vocational, self-help and more. Inmates can subscribe to the Inspire eBooks service – similar to GTL’s other Inspire subscription services such as streaming music and game center.

“There are many benefits for a facility to provide eBooks services with existing library and educational services,” said Brian Peters, Executive Director of Inmate Applications & Hardware at GTL. “This latest Inspire offering is designed from the ground up for the corrections environment to provide a secure, affordable, and efficient method for delivering literature to every inmate. Facilities also increase security by eliminating paper copies of books as another method of delivering contraband and the need to escort inmates to prison and jail libraries.”

With eBooks, inmates benefit from a greatly expanded world of literature options which enables them to improve upon vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, and develop creativity and self-image – increasing the likelihood of employment upon reentry. This expansive e-reading catalogue offered through the Inspire eBooks application accommodates all skill levels and reading preferences within an inmate population. “We’re noticing a shift in the corrections industry towards e-reading technology for educational purposes, particularly as studies have shown education is a path to reduced recidivism rates,” added Brian Peters.

Inspire’s latest application subscription, eBooks, provides inmates a digital e-reading experience with the ability to search and select from a library of over 40,000 books of their choice, save books on their ‘bookshelf’ using a customized bookmarking feature to save a page and pick up reading where they left off.
