GTL Unites to Support the National Down Syndrome Society’s Annual Buddy Walk

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and holds a personal meaning for some GTL employees

Reston, Virginia (PRNewsWire) – October 25, 2016GTL, the leading provider of correctional technology solutions and an innovator in payment services solutions for government, today announced that both its Mobile, Al., and Reston, Va., offices sponsored and participated through GTL’s “Give To Live” initiative in the National Down Syndrome Society’s Annual Buddy Walk®.

The Reston, Va., office donated and sponsored the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia (DSANV) annual Buddy Walk® at George Mason University, Mason Pond.

“As we have found with our own daughter, individuals with Down syndrome are successful and active participants in educational, social and recreational activities in our communities,” said Jeremy Oliver, Director of Business Development & Analysis at GTL. “With the continued support and empowering investments from businesses like GTL and others, we will have an opportunity to witness the many ways in which individuals with disabilities can and will create meaningful and lasting contributions to society. We have been amazed by how she, when given an opportunity, has achieved beyond all expectations in many areas of her life. She is a precious member of our family.”

In Mobile, Al., about 50 GTL employees and their families walked in the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk, and GTL was the Platinum Sponsor of the event. The Mobile office walked with team Elliot’s Entourage. Teresa Ridgeway, Senior VP of Administration, commented, “Elliot has been an inspiration to our family. He continues to show that individuals with an extra chromosome can do anything they put their mind to. This Buddy Walk was particularly special for us as Elliot was able to walk across the finish line for the first time. GTL considers it a privilege to help promote and educate the public about the capabilities, rather than the limitations, of those with Down syndrome.”
