The Importance of Education for Correctional Officers and Employees – How GTL Supports Our Customers

Correctional officers and employees around the country are recognized each May during National Correctional Officers & Employees Week. Started by President Reagan in 1984, this week recognizes those who serve every day without fail to help keep our communities safer.

As a corrections technology provider who is proud to be called a partner by hundreds of correctional facilities throughout the country, GTL sees the dedication and devotion of these employees to their jobs. It is only right that their commitment should be recognized, not only during one week in May but throughout the entire year. We recently highlighted our commitment by adding a free package of wellness courses to our Learning Management System (LMS) and providing free 15-day subscriptions to all current facility customer employees through June 30 as part of National Correctional Officers & Employees Week.

We are excited to announce that we are extending this offer—allowing officers and staff members at customer facilities to access these free LMS courses until August 31, 2019.

The LMS courses available during this timeframe are focused on employee wellness and cultivating leadership skills. Users can focus on creating a positive atmosphere with courses such as “Establishing a Positive Work Environment,” “Staying Balanced in a Shifting World,” and “The Many Approaches to Facing Workplace Conflict,” among others. Leadership courses include “Running Meetings in Better Directions,” “Developing a Growth Mind-set,” “Planning Meetings Fit for Purpose,” and more.

The national corrections officer turnover rate is currently more than 30%. At GTL, we provide educational opportunities for officers and staff to assist them in growing in their jobs, efficiently performing duties, and climbing the career ladder. Facilities need to retain a competent, successful, hard-working workforce. That can be done by providing an education solution focused on technology, portability, and customization.
